COVID-19 Recession Impacts
On May 17, 12:00 p.m. ET, the Interagency Committee on Disability Research (ICDR) May Lunch & Learn Webinar: How did the COVID-19 Recession Impact People with Disabilities in Rural America? will feature researchers discussing various effects of the recession. Dr. Catherine Ipsen and Andrew Myers from the University of Montana, and Dr. Andrew Houtenville from the University of New Hampshire, will discuss employment outcomes for people with disabilities in rural and urban areas over time, as well as rates of telework, inability to work due to closed businesses, getting paid, and the ability to look for work in rural and urban areas.

Transportation Interviews
RTC:Rural's Krys Standley will be presenting the poster "Patiently Waiting": How Do Non-driving Disabled Adults Get Around in Rural America at the NARRTC annual meeting.
The poster features information from interviews with rural people with disabilities who rely solely on rides from others or public transportation.

Outcome Measures Toolkit
RTC:Rural worked with several advisory groups to adapt a training on outcome measures from Independent Living Research Utilization (ILRU). This toolkit provides insights on measuring, evaluating, and improving outcomes of CIL programs. Our researchers continue working with ILRU to explore the exciting potential uses of this toolkit to encourage CILs to engage in outcome management. We will highlight next steps as they emerge.

Creating a Resource Map
RTC:Rural has put together a step-by-step tutorial to create community living resource maps using Google My Maps.
The maps can be used to feature community resources such as healthcare, transportation, and employment opportunities in a customized local area.

KT Casebook
Dr. Rayna Sage has written an entry for the 10th Edition of KTDRR's KT Casebook.
Rural Community Living Development Peer Mentoring: A Strategy for Sustainable Knowledge Translation discusses using a participatory process with staff from Centers for Independent Living to develop a curriculum around effective outreach and community organizing on rural issues including housing, transportation, and healthcare. The entry discusses successes and challenges, including those encountered doing outreach during the pandemic.

Think College Awareness Week
The Institute for Community Inclusion from UMass Boston is hosting a week-long event April 24-28 on expanding access to college for students with intellectual disabilities that will offer daily virtual learning events.
There is a mix of online events, including information and resources for students, families, educators, transition professionals, and higher education personnel.

RTC:Rural is funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) grant number 90RTCP0002 to improve the ability of people with disabilities to engage in rural community living.
